The World of Mysteria
Mysteria is alive: forests, rivers, lakes, mountains, and deserts cover its vast world. Sky cities, shadowy caverns, sentient groves, and aeries dot the landscape. People are born of wood, wind, storm, and fire. At its core lies one truth: Everything in Mysteria is connected. As the moon begins its long ascent, the Silver Hours unfurl across the land, drawing a cool, luminous veil over the waking world, "Infinergy-Aera" courses through everything. Mysteria, tidally locked, keeps one hemisphere always facing its sun, the other in perpetual night. The sunlit side teems with life; the dark side, Veltharun, remains unknown. On the bright side of Mysteria, the sun never sets, so true darkness never comes. Still, people talk about 'night', not because the sun sets, but because the moon rises. When the moon is up, its pale light shines through the mists, creating the Silver Hours. This period is Mysteria's version of night. Across the land, cultures use these hours for rest, rituals, and meditation, seeing the moon's watch as a quiet balance to the day. Ley‑lines run like a vast circulatory system beneath the land, channeling raw Infinergy-Aera from the planet's molten heart up to the surface. This "Aera" can be seen and felt in the weather, plant growth, and Aeratic surges. From these currents, Mysteria's greatest guardians emerge: the Elder Trees. Scattered across the land, Elder Trees are not just flora. They shape the weather, protect life, and guide civilizations. Of these, five are known as Great Elder Trees. Each one is a ley‑anchor whose roots and branches guide and mold the balance of an entire realm. But even the Elder Trees cannot dream forever.
The Known World
The Land of Aedhara
The Lands
Regions of Mysteria
Wood Elf Realms
The Great Emerald Forest Canopies
Three great canopy realms shelter the long-lived, nature-bound Wood Elves: the Hallowed Canopy (anchored by Great Elder Tree Aedhrion), the Canopy of the Dawn (anchored by Elder Tree Ikuku), and the NorthWood (home to the Druids, anchored by Elder Tree Custos). Society is structured into apprentices (Naelir), masters (Sylhara), and elders (Talaen), protected by the Thornwatch and advised by the botanical scholars of the Flora Pact.
Skyborne Ascendant Realm
The Citadel of Ogbon
A floating citadel held aloft by the living roots and aura of the Great Elder Tree Igbagbon — 'One who understands the world'. Home to the long-lived Ascendants: a Noetically evolved species communicating via telepathy and manipulating mass through psychokinesis. Hairstyles signal academic rank and historical memory indexing. They construct Mnemonic Prisms and write spellwork onto Ley-silk scrolls.
Subterranean Metropolis
Xhyth — The Deep Dweller Labyrinth
A lightless subterranean labyrinth and vast metropolis anchored by the crystalline Great Elder Tree Aethestia near the planet's core. Its inhabitants are direct human descendants who mutated in the dark — completely blind with vestigial eyes wrapped in ceremonial cloth, navigating via six-tendril Seismic-Noetic Echolocation. Deep Dweller smiths forge semi-sentient Geode Ore weapons using acoustic Symphony rather than hammers or fire.
Volcanic Forge City
Thar-Vul — The Nebūz Caldera
The volcanic caldera city of Thar-Vul, anchored by Vulkara — the semi-sentient Great Elder Tree of fire, stone, crystal, and brass. Home to the Nebūz: diminutive humanoids (3 feet tall) with brick-red volcanic skin, ash-forged lungs, and ember-veined blood. Master engineers and roadsmiths who forge Bloomforge alloys, Skystepper pulsecrafts, and gauntlets capable of withstanding extreme geothermal heat.
Wildkin Mist-Valleys
The Lysorian Peninsula
Mist-shrouded valleys anchored by the Great Spirit Elder Tree Anam'ra. Home to the Wildkin — human-shaman hybrids who formed a symbiotic covenant with native animal spirits. They command the sentient grey-white mists of Anam'ra buffered in their lungs, and channel Viridian-Æra for explosive physical metamorphosis into half-beast combat forms.
Sky-Aerie Realms
The Stormspire Aeries & Orula
The sky-aeries atop the Stormspire Mountains, home to two sky-born peoples. The Goshawks are bio-engineered Wardens of the Sky — 6'6" powerhouses with copper skin, bare raptor talons, and some like Alphons with the capacity to lift/press up to seven tons. The Orulians are evolved Goshawks from the plane of Orula who transcended wings to manipulate gravity and air pressure via embedded Gravis Nodules, wielding storm-axes called Oshe.
Northern Canyon Kingdom
The Kingdom of Ghalia
A canyon-bound human kingdom anchored by the Black Citadel. Its broad-shouldered, giant-statured warriors mined the black Anti-Æratic ore Aethilium — granting their blades armor-piercing nullification and rendering their bones nearly unbreakable. The cost: Aethilium's Anti-Æratic siphoning causes accelerated aging, limiting Ghalian lifespans to under fifty years.
Desert Wastes & Oasis
The Barrenlands & HeartGrove
The pale gold desert Wastes of the Barrenlands, home to the Astomi — a bronze-skinned race of baseline humans possessing no innate elemental affinities yet representing the physical peak of human endurance. Governed by the Grand Echo Mother, they wield inherited Bloodline Echo Mastery and pain-gating responses. Later settled at the Concord Grove Oasis (HeartGrove) under the young Elder Tree Kunnara.
Industrial Human Heartland
Tholen & The Eastern Fiefdoms
The iron-walled industrial heartland ruled by Warlord Othrek Blacksun and later his grandson Warlord Kamet Blacksun. Defined by riveted steel strongholds, massive steam-pressured plate armour, and giant coal furnaces. Centuries ago these fiefdoms rejected the Elder Tree Covenant — calling it 'an elven leash' — choosing iron over wood and steam over magic. Their baseline mortals burn out in seventy to eighty years, suffering industrial black-lung and Rift-rot, yet their bitter resilience drives relentless mechanical innovation.
Port City & Trading Hub
Cascade Bay
A salt-stained, smog-choked port town and massive trading hub governed by ruthless Mercantile Cartels. A hotbed for black-market trade and deep-cover espionage — where Korus the Môr operates his oddities shop — and the birthplace of Oraya, the Amethyst Conduit. Cascade Bay is where every faction's interests collide and where secrets are the most valuable currency.
Desert River Hub
Tilsa Village & The Almiraj Burrows
Subterranean burrows beneath the desert dunes, later integrated into the river trading hub of Tilsa Village anchored by the Elder Tree of Echoes. Home to the Almiraj — a race of lagomorphic bipeds with spiraled horns that radiate an anti-illusion, truth-revealing resonance. Their horns dispel Zhavari glamours, ground Noetic attacks, and unbind Rift-forged monsters.
The Magic System
The Tripartite Æra System
Magic in Mysteria is not a vague, mystical force — it is classified scientifically as Æra, a measurable continuum consisting of three distinct energy channels. To Ærate is to channel, condense, or discharge Æra. An Ærist is any entity capable of doing so. And Æratic phenomena shape every living thing on the supercontinent of Aedhara.
Infinergy-Æra
The elemental and planetary lifeblood of Mysteria. Channelled directly from the planet's molten core through subterranean Ley-lines up to the surface, Infinergy-Æra fuels the growth of the Great Elder Trees and powers the elemental affinities — Water, Fire, Air, Earth — of terrestrial Ærists, Wood Elves, and Wardens. Its presence is visible in weather phenomena, plant growth, and localised Æratic surges across the land.
Noetic-Æra
The cognitive and mental consciousness channel, generated continuously through conscious thought and cognitive intent. Noetic-Æra fuels the telepathy, psychokinesis, and mental architecture — such as Mnemonic Prisms — of the skyborne Ascendants and awakened humans. Biological capacity and output are measured using the P.T.A.F. (Psychokinetic and Telepathic Ascension Framework) scale.
Viridian-Æra
The kinetic and biological momentum channel, drawn directly from the Viridian Kitsuvari — the eternal force governing continuance and survival. Viridian-Æra serves as the biological engine for the Wildkin human-shaman hybrids, fuelling their physical metamorphosis into half-beast forms, explosive combat prowess, and their extended 500-year lifespans.
Anti-Æratic Forces
Not all forces in Mysteria channel Æra — some nullify or siphon it entirely. Materials and phenomena classified as Anti-Æratic, such as Aethilium, actively suppress or drain Æratic substrates. In the wrong hands, Anti-Æratic forces represent one of the most dangerous threats to the balance of Aedhara's living energy system.
Powers & Factions
The Peoples of Aedhara
The Wood Elves & Canopy Guardians
Long-lived, nature-bound Ærists of the Great Emerald Forest, structured into Naelir, Sylhara, and Talaen. Protected by the Thornwatch and the Flora Pact, they are the primary stewards of the Great Elder Trees and the Ley-line network that sustains all life on Aedhara.
The Ascendants of Ogbon
A skyborne, Noetically evolved people who communicate via telepathy and manipulate mass through psychokinesis. From their floating Citadel held aloft by the Great Elder Tree Igbagbon, they chart the living Ley-lines of Mysteria and guard the boundaries of Noetic knowledge.
The Wildkin of Lysoria
Human-shaman hybrids bound by a 500-year covenant with native animal spirits, channelling Viridian-Æra for explosive physical metamorphosis. Chieftains like Rahm Akoro and skirmishers like Amaya Akoro represent the Lysorian Peninsula's fierce, mist-shrouded warrior culture.
The Nebūz of Thar-Vul
Diminutive master engineers of the volcanic caldera city of Thar-Vul, forging Bloomforge alloys and Skystepper pulsecrafts under the watch of the semi-sentient Elder Tree Vulkara. Their mechanical ingenuity rivals any Æratic power on the continent.
The Eastern Fiefdoms
The iron-walled industrial heartlands of Tholen, Cascade Bay, Brazenhold, Lonriel, and Cressix. Having rejected the Elder Tree Covenant generations ago, they chose steam and steel over Æra — accepting shortened lifespans and industrial black-lung as the price of their fierce autonomy.
The Invasive Cabal of Yselex
Invaders from the ruined binary-sun world of Yselex, led by the pre-temporal cosmic parasite Adarath the Aeraphage. Their five species — Zhavari shapeshifters, Vraxxi spider-assassins, Zephyrix bioelectric raptors, Syggurath magma-behemoths, and Erelathi calcified engineers — represent an existential threat to every living thing on Aedhara.
